FDNY Female Firefighter Canditate Trains for Exam

Carol Boykins practices for the forcible entry portion of the FDNY entry test in 1982. Candidate’s ability to pound a rolled-up hose measured their corresponding ability to force a door open.  Boykins, along with other candidates, were among the first to train for an improved physical exam that the FDNY in response to a class-action sex discrimination lawsuit.
